TRMM PR echo-top height and VIRS IR T_b

A joint use of precipitation height (radar echo-top height) and cloud-top temperature (infrared radiance) measured from the space is demonstrated here to be useful for delineating the climatology of tropical precipitating clouds. The dataset analyzed, including more recent observations as well, is archived and open to the general research community.
The archived data are:

• - Constructed from instantaneous observations by TRMM PR and VIRS.
• - Gridded globally at the quarter-degree resolution.
• - Stored in ascii format.
• - Inclusive of the 10-year period from 1998 to 2007.
• - Bundled in gzipped TAR files separately for different years.

README and a sample data file are available for reference.
